History:

I've purchased my Mio DigiWalkeer C520 in August 2007. Hoping to learn more about it, I started looking for a fan forum and found it at GpsPassion.com. Then I've discovered that people are modifying the script that builds Mio's interface and called it a "skin". Having some programming experience I started looking into these code changes and realized that it could an interesting adventure. I published my first modification in Dec'07 and since that time, with help and support of many forum fans it evolved to what you can see here.

When you download and install this skin you will experience navigation at the level that no other skin provides (see features below). Neither Mitac nor any other manufacturer delivers a skin so rich in features and level of customization. Check peoples comments since my first post on gpspassion.com forum and the following 300+ pages.

Compatibility and requirements :

• Skin has been developed to be compatible primarily with Mio DigiWalker C520. I has been proven by many users to be compatible with C320, C720 devices and reported successful installations on compatible widescreen (480x272) GPS navigation hardware like HP, InVion and iGO equivalent, running under Windows CE 5.0, after "unlocking".
• Requires Miomap.exe v3.3 dated July'2007 (recommended). Later releases of Miomap.exe also work with minor differencies and issues.

Features:

• Extra button (bottom left corner).
• All buttons can be configured to perform over 40 functions with custom icons.
• Special functions for "Voice ON/OFF" and "Keep on Route NO/OFF" .
• Special button function showing 5-button custom Windows Panel .
• All buttons can have a semi-transparent square background or none.
• All buttons can be hidden individually or all-at-once.
• All buttons function assignments can be remembered after exiting Miomap and restored on return.
• Many functions can be customized by creating an "overlay" DATA.zip in SKIN folder.
• Car images (up to 6) can be configured to overlay a "guide triangle" in 3D view.
• Speed limit visual and audio display and controls have been enhanced.
• Safety camera (speedcam) visual controls have been enhanced and spoken speedcam function added.
• Multiple setup, display and control fixes have been applied.
• Trip Computer (time started/stopped, duration, average speed - based on recorder "track" info) , that refreshes in real time.
• Special button function showing 5-button custom StopWord Panel including Route Management.
• Special button function showing 5-button custom Windows Panel including media players.
• Separate "override" file allowing customization of functionality and visualization of the skin. Allows custom look and feel including custom buttons, setup and appearance (sidepanel text/fonts and image). This feature is continuosly being expanded (see updates on "Downloads" page). It includes User Variable Control file which allows setting of about 50 controls changing skins presentation and behavior plus new menu icons.
• Current city and street/house numbers shown in real time activated by a button.

• External customization of graphics - work in progress.

Work in Progress:

• An application to import, customize and export Map Color Schemes.

General Policy:

I generally do not provide hints how to change code, unless I can test these. My goal is to provide a safe and easy way to achieve such result by permanently embeding it into the code. Otherwise, such change may be lost or create conflict with future development. This approach ensures integrity of the development plus eliminates confusion and unnnecessary inquiries.
Please use "overrides" to ensure compatibility of changes with "core" skin. I'll do my best to keep "core" skin compatible with "overrides".
